OPEX Reference Group – APAC Chapter Discusses Scaling Operational Excellence with AI-Augmented BPM

The Operational Excellence (OPEX) Reference Group – APAC Chapter hosted its May 2026 Live Meetup, bringing together operational excellence and transformation professionals to explore how AI is reshaping Business Process Management (BPM) and enabling organisations to scale impact without scaling teams.

The virtual meetup featured PRIME BPM’s Rene Fourie, who delivered a practical and insight-packed session on “AI-Augmented Operational Excellence: Scaling Impact Without Scaling Teams.”

Drawing from her extensive experience across business analysis, process management, and operational transformation projects globally, Rene explored how AI is transforming the BPM landscape by accelerating process mapping, simplifying analysis, and enabling organisations to focus more on improvement and execution.

Rene emphasized that while AI will not replace BPM professionals, organisations and individuals who fail to adopt AI-enabled ways of working risk falling behind in an increasingly competitive and fast-moving environment.

“We are not going to be replaced by AI. But humans who do not use AI will be replaced by those who do. AI should be a force multiplier that helps us work faster, smarter, and focus on higher-value activities,” said Rene.

Key Discussion Highlights Included:

  • The growing importance of AI-driven process mapping and analysis
  • How organisations can scale BPM initiatives without increasing team size
  • The role of AI in reducing manual effort, duplication, and repetitive work
  • Why AI should augment human capability rather than replace BPM professionals
  • Practical examples of AI-powered process discovery, analysis, and reporting
  • How conversational AI tools can improve access to process knowledge across organisations

The session also showcased practical demonstrations of AI-driven process mapping capabilities, illustrating how process information from videos, text, and other formats can be converted into BPMN-compliant process maps significantly faster than traditional approaches.

Rene further highlighted the importance of combining high-quality data, human expertise, and AI-driven insights to improve operational outcomes while reducing the time and effort traditionally associated with process management initiatives.
